Where the route goes

Road to Heaven is a popular name for a scenic road section on the route from Khavda toward Khadir Bet and Dholavira. It is part of a longer journey, not a fixed-distance day trip from Dhordo. Sources measure different endpoints, so map your accommodation, the route section and the Dholavira site separately.

Plan the drive

• Use a current route planner for your actual starting point and destination. The Bhuj–Dholavira distance changes substantially between the Bhachau–Rapar and Khavda approaches.
• Check current road conditions and any access instructions before departure; do not rely on old travel times or assume every stop is open to visitors.
• Plan fuel, food and water before leaving a town, and confirm current services rather than assuming they are available along the road.
• If visiting Dholavira, check site opening information and consider an overnight stay nearby when the mapped journey and visit would make a return drive impractical.

Road safety and the salt flats

• Stay on the marked road and use safe stopping places; never stop in a traffic lane for photographs.
• Do not drive onto the salt flats or unmarked ground. Surface conditions can be difficult to judge.
• Check for any current restrictions before using a drone or entering the surrounding landscape.
