The White Rann is a seasonal salt-flat landscape in northern Kutch. A first visit is easier to plan when you separate three things: the White Rann access area, Dhordo village and the Rann Utsav Tent City. They are nearby in the same travel region, but they do not share one ticket or one set of booking terms.

Check access before choosing a date

Gujarat Tourism provides an online entry permit portal for the White Rann. Check the current dates, documents, permit process and any instructions for your chosen access point before travel. Do not rely on old posts for checkpoint details or assume that a permit can always be obtained at a particular booth.

The public sources reviewed do not settle current night-entry rules for every access arrangement. A full-moon date does not by itself guarantee permission to enter after dark. Check the permit portal or local authorities for the exact date, and plan a safe return or an overnight stay.

Dhordo, Tent City or another stay

Dhordo is a village and a useful base for the area. The Rann Utsav Tent City is a separate seasonal accommodation and event operation. Review the current package before booking: transfers, meals, performances, activities and White Rann access can depend on the specific package and date.

Other accommodation is available in Dhordo and nearby villages. Contact each property about its location, transport, opening dates and inclusions. Staying outside Tent City does not imply access to its private facilities or event programme. See the Dhordo guide for the distinction and the White Rann guide for access links.

Plan the route and return

Start with your actual arrival point and accommodation, then route to the access location stated in the current permit instructions. A generic Bhuj-to-Rann distance can refer to different endpoints and should not be used to time a return after sunset.

If adding Khavda, Kalo Dungar or Dholavira, check each leg separately and decide where to sleep before booking. The Road to Heaven is on the route toward Dholavira and is not simply another stop inside Dhordo. Check route and road conditions close to departure.

What to carry

  • The identity documents and permit evidence required by the current official instructions.
  • Warm layers for a winter evening and sun protection for daytime exposure.
  • Comfortable footwear suitable for the surface and access conditions on your visit date.

For broader routing, use the Kutch trip planner and allow enough time for travel between bases rather than treating the district as one compact day trip.
